Howard D Rededication ceremony

Twelve years after returning to Jersey as the Spero II, the Island’s first motorised lifeboat has been fully restored to her former glory and will, once again, sail under the name of the Howard D.

Secrets and Spies

Mont Orgueil

Mont Orgueil Castle has protected the Island from invasion since the 13th century and been privy to secrets and spies throughout the ages. This four-day event will investigate codes, secret clues and espionage at Mont Orgueil with re-enactors from the UK and Jersey to entertain and tell the stories of spies and soldiers during the Napoleonic War.

The Tranquil Harbours and Havens of Jersey

Take a pleasant afternoon stroll around the Island’s tranquil harbours and havens and hear about their history and legends from a Blue Badge Guide or a member of the Jersey Heritage Community Learning Team.  Starting at 2.30 pm. Each walks lasts about 90 minutes.

Paul Jacob Naftel. From St Peter Port to Strawberry Hill by Stephen Furniss

Jersey Museum

The life of the prolific, self-taught Guernsey artist whose paintings were praised for their ‘truth of nature’ and whose progress to acceptance into the Old Watercolour Society has been described as the work of a genius.  Talk will be taking place in the AV Theatre.  Admission free

John Le Capelain by Jonathan Voak

Despite his short life, John Le Capelain produced a large number of watercolours. He was often compared to J M W Turner for the way he tried to convey how the landscape made him feel - what Ruskin described as ‘imaginative topography.’ The talk will include a look at works by Le Capelain featured in the Romantics in the Channel Islands exhibition. Talk will be taking place in the AV Theatre.  Admission free

The Graphic Artwork of Victor Hugo in Jersey by Diane Moore

Taking a closer look at Hugo the artist, Ms Moore will focus on the artwork he produced while exiled in Jersey. Hugo was a highly visionary artist, and his paintings and drawings reflect both the Romantic spirit  which underlined much of his writing as well as his own highly individualistic approach to art.  Talk will be taking place in the AV Theatre.  Admission free

Eye of the Storm - the artist Sarah Louisa Kilpack,

Jersey Museum

Kilpack had an affinity with the Channel Islands and conveyed in her small oil paintings the turbulence of the sea, the threatening nature of dark clouds and the insignificance of human figures surrounded by uncontrollable natural forces.  The talk will include a look at the sketch books of ink drawings compiled from Kilpack's illustrated letters.  Talk will be taking place in the AV Theatre.  Admission free

Romans and Gauls

La Hougue Bie

One of the best Roman and Early Briton re-enactment groups in the country, Vicus, will be transforming La Hougue Bie into a Roman camp. See warriors display their hand-to-hand fighting skills, while camp followers and the indigenous people illustrate the more sedate activities of calligraphy and mosaic making.
