This wonderful example of a 19th century christening robe is made from fine cotton lawn and broderie anglaise. Christening robes were often handed down through families with many generations of babies wearing them. But because modern babies are generally larger, and are christened later, small, fine robes such as this fell out of use and came in to our care.

Wedding dress

This beautiful wedding dress in cream silk crosgrain, was made by Madam Henry, a highly respected dressmaker. It was worn by Agnes Lucy Hughes at her marriage to Earl Winfield Spencer in 1887. The dress was kept as a family treasure for many years in attics and cupboards and is now a highlight of our textile collection.

The recipient's daughter treasured this collection of war medals for over 70 years. They were given to the Jersey Heritage Trust as she felt no one else would care for them and now form part of our collection of almost 500 military medals.
