Business
Plan
With a new structure and board of trustees, agreed by the States in 1999,
the Jersey Heritage Trust is poised for further major achievements in
the coming years. These are set out in full in the Business Plan 2000-2003.
The highlights are:
- A new Archive. The building
will be officially opened on 24 July. A wide ranging service will be
provided to the public in the new building and through its on-line provision.
- A start on the Mont Orgueil project.
Following the opening of the Archive, this is the major capital project
in the plan period. Improving visitor facilities will be an early priority
with the tea-room planned for completion in 2001.
- A wide range of site improvements
and other measures to enhance visitor experience. There will
be substantial improvements at both La Hougue Bie and Hamptonne, new
exhibitions at the Jersey Museum and the Maritime Museum, and a full
annual programme of events throughout all sites. A user group of secondary
school students will create a new exhibition at Elizabeth Castle and
on the internet and another initiative using a focus group will enhance
the value of season tickets.
- Better access
to collections through the Heritage Database. This
initiative, to be on-line in 2001, will create a single on-line research
tool for anyone interested in Jersey history.
- Much wider, more forward-looking
approach. The Trust's purpose can only be successfully achieved
if it becomes a key player in island life and on the international scene.
Initiatives include the completion of the Millennium Mosaic and the
Citibank-Jersey 2000 project, development of the Millennium Monument,
hosting the Museums Association Conference in October, leading on the
initiative for a National Gallery of Jersey and playing a full part
in the States' cultural strategy development and implementation.
