About Us

The Jersey Heritage Trust's Mission Statement:

”Jersey’s heritage and culture is special. The purpose of the Jersey Heritage Trust is to care for it, promote wide access to it, act as advocates on its behalf and bring imagination to telling its stories so that we inspire people to create a better island for everyone.”

Welcome to the website of the Jersey Heritage Trust. We hope that you enjoy your visit and take away new information and insights about the special heritage of the Channel Island of Jersey – the most southerly of the British Isles.

The Trust was founded in 1981. We are an independent organisation that receives an annual grant from the Island’s government, the States of Jersey, to support our running costs. Admission income from visitors and support from sponsors are also vital to keep us operating.

We are responsible for the Island's major historic sites, award-winning museums and public archives. We hold collections of artefacts, works of art, documents, specimens and information relating to Jersey's history, culture and environment. These collections define the Island, hold the evidence for its historical development and act as the community's memory.

We are proud of our record. We have won the UK National Heritage Museum of the Year award twice, we opened the £6 million Jersey Archive in 2000 and in April 2006 we reopened the Island’s most iconic building, Mont Orgueil Castle, following a five-year restoration project. We have exciting plans for events this year and developments in the future which you can find more about on this site.

Our website is an important way for us to broaden access to our collections, our sites and our work. If we can help you with more information, e-mail us. We hope that you find our site enjoyable and that we may also be able to welcome you in person one day soon.
