March and April 2008 Mont Orgueil Castle The Eagle Has Landed Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 17 March 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm with the f lying demonstration at approx 2.45 pm Saturday 12 April 10 am to 4 pm Lady Ann Hayden will entertain and educate as she demonstrates the Tudor pastime of hawking with her prized birds of prey Skaoi, Malachi and Lady Gwynevere. Tudor Military Weapons Tuesday and Thursday, 10 am to 4 pm The castle’s Tudor Master Gunner, John Coffin, has a range of 16th century edged weapons and firepower at his disposal to enlighten visitors in his skilful yet deadly craft. Discover the history and mysteries of gunpowder, and poise, fingers close to ears, when John fires the swivel gun in the Cornish Bastion at 12 pm and 2 pm. A Fisherman’s Tale Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10.30 am to 1.30 pm Meet Gorey fisherman Philippe Hamon in the Lower Ward for gossip and hear stories from the castle’s checkered history. Lady de la Fontaine Regular Saturdays from 18 March, 10 am to 4 pm Lady de la Fontaine will instruct you in the medieval art of calligraphy. Try your hand at embroidery or brass rubbing. Medieval Life Saturdays from 18 March Step back in time to the 15th century to meet members of the Companie of the Duke’s Leopards. A Fletcher’s Family Saturdays from 23 March , 10 am to 4 pm Master Mick has to work hard to provide for his medieval family. He has developed many skills and can be seen fletching arrows and producing leather goods. Tudor Master Gunner and Bess Coffin From Sunday 30 March, 10 am to 4 pm Master Gunner John Coffin and his good wife, Bess, provide a fascinating insight into 16th century social history. Throughout the day, Master Coffin will be ready to talk about Tudor weapons and to discuss his campaign tactics. Bess, a skilled cook who is adept at preparing medicinal and herbal cures, will also entertain and inform.
