The Goodwyf

Hamptonne House is set in the time of the English Civil War. Meet the Goodwyf who tends house for Monsieur Laurens Hamptonne, listen to gossip about the impending visit of the young prince and be entertained with humourous and ghostly stories.


A Royalist Supporter

Alternate Saturdays from 29 March

Laurens Hamptonne changed the course of British history when he had the great honour of being the first to declare young Prince Charles (II) the future King of England. Meet him as he prepares this historic document of proclamation and readies Royalist Jersey for war.

 


Spinning a Yarn

Every Monday from 18 March and Sunday 27 April
Spinning and knitting have provided a lucrative business in Jersey for centuries. Maureen and Irene offer a fascinating insight into the history and the trade of knitted goods. A chance too to purchase some hand spun goodies.

Lace and Bobbins

Polly Bartram is a refined 18th century lady proficient in the social skills expected of a woman of her class. Discover the origins of lace and marvel at the exquisite work she produces.

Abraham and Polly Bartram

Sunday 30 March and Sunday 13 April

10 am to 4 pm

Meet Abraham, an 18th century Militiaman, as he prepares for an imminent French invasion. His wife, Polly, provides support during this rare off-duty moment.

Flour Power

Morning, 2 April

Watch our bakers hard at work kneading dough for our famous Jersey cabbage loaves.  Sample the delicious hot bread as it is brought out of the old brick oven.

Creature Comforts

Daily, early morning and late afternoon

Jonathan cares for the Hamptonne animals. He is an organic dairy farmer with his own farm and dairy herd to tend. Talk to him about the history of farming in Jersey, meet the animals and help bottle-feed the cute and dainty calves.

The Caesarea Quilters’ Group will be demonstrating their work throughout the season. Items of traditional handiwork will be available to buy.
