Gunner Gilman

Monday to Friday, 10 am to 3.30 pm
Master Gunner ‘Gilly’ Gilman is always on the prowl for recruits to join his Invalid Battalion. In the 18th century, men aged 16 to 65 were expected to protect the Island from the ever-present threat of French invasion. Join Gilly in the Parade Ground at lunchtime for drill practice and the chance to fire one of the few black powder cannons in use today. Your Island needs you!

Gunner Blake

This old soldier has been in many overseas campaigns but now proudly defends his Island from the imminent threat of French invasion. Expect to be mustered for drill practice in the parade ground.

Soldiers of the King

Sundays, 10 am to 4 pm

An extravaganza of 18th century military life. Master Gunner Gates inspects his men on parade and during drill practice. Witness the competition as they fire three shots a minute with the Brown Bess and then settle their arguments with a pistol duel. Join them for the parade and firing of the black powder cannon.
