The Jersey Heritage Trust's Mission Statement:

Jersey's heritage and culture is special. The purpose of the Jersey Heritage Trust is to care for it, promote wide access to it, act as advocates on its behalf and bring imagination to telling its stories so that we inspire people to create a better island for everyone.

Welcome to the website of the Jersey Heritage Trust. We hope that you enjoy your visit and take away new information and insights about the special heritage of the island of Jersey.

The Trust was founded in 1981. We are an independent organisation that receives an annual grant from the States of Jersey to support our running costs. Admission income from visitors and support from sponsors are also vital to keep us operating.

Here in Jersey, we are responsible for the island's major historic sites, award-winning museums and public archives. We hold collections of artefacts, works of art, documents, specimens and information relating to Jersey's history, culture and environment. These collections define the island, hold the evidence for its historical development and act as the community's memory.

We are proud of our record in the last ten years: we have won the UK National Heritage Museum of the Year award twice, we opened the new £6m Jersey Archive in 2000 and we have started work on a major restoration and interpretation scheme at Mont Orgueil. We have other exciting plans for events this winter and developments in 2005 which you can find more about on this site.

Our website is an important way for us to broaden access to our collections, our sites and our work. If we can help you with more information, e-mail us. We hope that you find our site enjoyable and that we may also be able to welcome you in person one day soon.
